Proposal #51: CISV wants YOU!

I propose that CISV sets up a real army, with bombers, tanks and infantry to intervene in crisis areas in order to prevent human rights disasters such as the genocide in Darfur.

Rationale

At some time we must realize, that education is not enough. People that believe in peace and human rights must act. Helping out in homeless shelters will only touch the tip of the iceberg. If we want to save lives and create justice in this world, we have to "stamp the present" even harder. I believe there is a good chance that we find enough volunteers among CISV who would be willing to invest more than a few weeks in the summer for a better world. These people should be recruited and gathered in a fighting squad that can intervene in order to prevent many a man-made disaster on this planet.

Respectfully submitted, Nick (GER) with inspiration from Paul (GER)

Well, like I pointed out in previous discussions, the army actually seems to be a like-minded-organisation to CISV. After all they "work" towards peace, too. Just in a different way than we do with CISV (so far). :-P

Now Seriously:
Has anyone considered working with the army, maybe in an IPP?
Or what about "short notice" camps where participants are sent on humanitarian missions wherever needed at the time.
Hm, only that doesn't work out if the trouble is happening in countries that don't like foreigners seeing their misery...

*and joking again*:
I think with the army we have found a new partner for our next
MOSAIC activity! :-P

people, please bring me back on topic XD

and in the spare time visit JBpedia and find out what great international JB activities are taking place near (or far away) from you:

What about having "CISV human shields"?
A group of (non fighting) people that could interpose themselves during conflicts. Bringing medias attention on the conflict they try to stop.

There are some organization working as "human shields" to prevent the attack of places like Hospitals or Museums, since it's less likely that an army attack a place where the world knows there are many foreign people, arrived with the purpose of protecting it, followed by medias.
A part from mine, wich is obviously a paradoxical proposal, I do think that meeting some officers from the Army could be interesting.
After all most of them say that they are working for peace and they probably believe that.
Maybe even some of us that did the army service agree with this...

Obviously I'm a bit disapointed by the lack of uproar that my proposal created. But I guess I've built a reputation, that people are just thinking, ok, ok, let him fool around...

Getting a bit morse serious, there are a few things, I was trying to hint at:

1) Being an educational organisation we've chosen an area to work with, that is least controversial. Who could be against education? Who's against teaching children? The discussion in the past years about being non-political has hinted in the same direction - let's just not do anything that could be critisized. Other people that fight for peace (Gerorge W Bush in his way of thinking) are far more in the line of fire.

2) As Hendrik noted, maybe an army is a like-minded organisation in the way that they (usually) fight for peace - just by different means. So being a soldier ans a CISVer may not be as contradictory as it seems.

3) I'm getting a bit tired of those people who want CISV to heal the world in every possible way. We have great volunteers, we have a great philosophy...but maybe we would be even more succesful if all CISVer realized that we can only be one tiny part of our puzzle. Which would also include CISV being on small part of the puzzle of our personal lives. Somehow I was trying to hint that CISV cannot do and be everything, and I thought that maybe this peoposal could illustrate how powerless CISV is in many ways.

Anyway...human shields are a fascinating concept!

Why dont we start in our country, in our city? We were talking about human shields and active acting...I saw a group of people who were around 60 years old who were standing between Riotcops and an agrassive Black Block. Do you think the, mostly young, policemans where pushing the old and peacefull people? NO! They were afrait. So we cant we start right at the next situation? Beeing a human shield. That would avoied violence and help both sites.
Isnt that peace education? Showing them how to do it right?!
As Nick sad: We can not change the world, but maybe situations in our "daily life". I hope CISVer getting more active, not just for some days in a year or daydreaming.
What about a task force?
