Proposal #6: A non-governmental organization.
I propose to replace the definition of CISV "an independent, non political, volunteer organization" with the term "a non-governmental, volunteer organization"
Rationale
The term "non-political", like "local work", has been a term that people in CISV tend to interpret as it best benefits them. In the US, for example, some people use this point to keep us from ever even discussing the fact that we are at war. Because it is a "political" issue and we do not deal with that of course.
Meanings of political, from britannica online:
1 a : of or relating to government, a government, or the conduct of government b : of, relating to, or concerned with the making as distinguished from the administration of governmental policyStated the above is clear that non-political is confusing and not reflecting CISV position in the society. The right term is NGO.
2 : of, relating to, involving, or involved in politics and especially party politics
3 : organized in governmental terms
4 : involving or charged or concerned with acts against a government or a political system

I tend to agree to this idea. I think CISV could use a new "definition" along with the rebranding initiative. The tagline, or definition or motto, whatever you want to call it has a very strong influence on how people see CISV.
Removing non-political = good idea.
I just discovered that on the CISV friends site the tagline is "A volunteer organisation promotion peace-education and cross-cultural friendship". Not a word about non-political.
But on www.cisv.org we have it... Gaby? What's up?
I think this being addressed in the re-branding process. The current description has been problematic for a long time . . . it says that we are non-political, non-profit, non-governmental . . . but it doesn't emphasize who we are and what we do.
Having a clear description will be a benefit in consistently articulating the organization's purpose -- another great benefit of the long-overdue rebranding process.
Well, not much to add - I agree with this and it should turn out in the re-branding, for sure!
hopefully it will, but what if not?
trustees remember about this when the ballot will be ondue at MWM.
CISV Norway brands itself as a politically independent organization. Not non-political.
Same in france, we are "une organisation indépendante, apolitique et aconfessionelle (non religious)". Which is here an abuse of language if we consider the first sense of politics... Anyway, noy that re branding is dead, can we expect even minor changes in the near future ? I m skeptical...
